Shri Anand Lahiri

Shri Anand Lahiri is considered one of the leading Tabla players today. One of the favorite disciples of the legendry Tabla maestro Pt. Kishan Maharaj Ji of Banaras Gharana. Anand have carved out a niche for himself around the musical world. His concerts have taken him to major centre of music around the country.

Anand has composed for and performed with internationally renowned artists Pt.Vilayat Khan, Pt. Rajan and Pt. Sajan Mishra, Pt.L.K.Pandit, Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty, Vidushi Sumitra Guha.

Anand’s debut CD was released by Padmabibhushan Pandit Kishan Maharaj himself in Kolkata in 2005.

Anand performs frequently with stars of Indian Music such as Pandit Rajan Sajan Misra, Ustad Gulam Ali, and Vidushi Sulochana Brihaspati, Pt. Debu Chaudhuri, Pt. Prateek Chaudhuri among many others. Anand’s talent for music and communication has allowed him to bridge the gap between Indian and Western Classical Music.

Anand has recorded music on more than 15 labels. He has done background score for many Musical Plays and Dance dramas. He has also composed and recorded music for various schools and colleges including Modern school Vasant Vihar, Hans Raj College, UMAK Centre for Art & Culture, Arya Samaj sansthapana divas 2011, Ramakrishna Mission.

Anand Lahiri was educated at Hans Raj College, Delhi University. He began playing Tabla at the age of four; at the age of twenty he performed with Ustad Vilayat Khan, and subsequently with many stars of Indian Music.

He was awarded the most valuable young musician award by Ex- Chief Justice M.N. Venkatachaliah. In 2001 he was awarded "Taal Mani" by Sur Sringar, Mumbai.

Also a cultural and educational entrepreneur, Anand founded ALAPAN and ensemble of world class artists whose goal is to promote global understanding through musical performance and education.
